Arri L7 vs Desisti vs BBC

Hey guys.... im in the process of selling my steadicam to buy lights instead.
So the local steadicam importer picks up my ad and says he wants to buy t... We go back and forth on price etc and I keep deflecting his sales pitches. So I drop a line about not being desperate to sell and say with premeditation that I was planning on selling to buy Arri L7s instead.

Now he says he wonders why I would buy Arris since he saw test that the L7s were only as powerful as Desisti 40ws and that BBC had cancelled an entire Arri order to buy Desisti instead.
Needless to say he went on to offer to sell me Desisti lamps in trade of the steadicam.

Has anyone heard about that test and can confirm it? And are Desisti really better than Arri L7-c?

This is not a bump... I just spent some time looking at the photometric data, and if it holds up, then Arri are way behind here :S except for the fact that they have a c-version you can control the color of and everything.
However, De Sisti are marketing their 40w lamp at almost equal power to the ARRI L7-c. Now I just wonder what the price is... Can't seem to find any European vendors at all...

Also... what do you guys think on De Sisti quality? Can it handle being hauled around on location and rented out? Or are we looking at lights for stage and studio? Read a few posts stating that De Sisti is mostly made for stage work, which would fit nicely with the BBC story since they wouldn't need lights that have to be rugged if they are just hanging them from the ceiling in their studios.

De Sisti makes incredible lights. I bought a 'leonardo' 2K light locally here and the gaffer / repairman who sold me explained how he's converted a few people to using them (He has about 300k of lights to sell..).

He outlined their markedly improved features over similar Mole richardson models, and while I cannot speak for Arri as I haven't used them, all signs say that they are equal in construction and quality. The 2K (with an oversized 10'' fresnel instead of 8'') feels like everything a rugged, high quality light should. Most importantly, it "feels" like a high quality item should. Every single feature has been thought out and exploited for maximum usefulness and ease of operation.

Snipe... that would be the tungsten light right?

I tried writing the DeSisti rep in the UK 2 weeks ago, but haven't gotten a response.

yea, it's a tungsten light. sounds like you might be checking out their fluoro's or led lights. I've looked into them on their website and they seem to have, once again, great features and capability. I'm not really surprised they haven't written back to you; their lights are so great that professionals around the world are picking them up, in very large quantities without question because they know how nice these lights are. Their reps most likely deal with very big orders all the time...highly recommended.
