ARRI from B & H Anyone?

I am about to purchase an ARRI light kit from B & H. I was wondering if anyone else here has done the same?

The reason I ask simply is that I need to know if the ARRI lights sold by B & H are manufactured in the US or not. As I live in Canada, anything manufactured in the US is free of duty charges. If its made elsewhere its subject to 12% duty at the boarder. This difference would cause me to buy here at home if I were hit with the 12%.

Anyone know for sure?

Thanks.

i say go for it, there is no argument that Arris are great lights, and that B&H is a reputable seller, so other than them not being the cheapest in town, its a can't go wrong combo you're planning.

You might call them and ask but Arri is a German company and I believe they manufacture all their stuff in Germany.

So I talk to B & H. They said they don't know where ARRI makes them and that I should call ARRI... Like they couldnt have someone check? Nice.

Anyone bought an ARRI light from them that could look for me?

Thanks.

i found two reps in montrela that carry and sell arri lighting.

cinequip white google em.

Thanks PaPa. At the moment its not an issue of whether I can get them... its at what price.

If the lights carried by B & H are manufactured in in the US I will avoid having to pay 12% tax. If the lights carried by B & H are made elsewhere... the price will be close enough to buy them in Canada.

The 12% would equal $360.00. Better in my pocket than just giving it to the government...

OK... So here is the final breakdown for anyone living in Canada interested in buying ARRI lights from the US using my case as the example.

$2689.95 USD
1 x ARRI Softbank IV Tungsten 5 Light Kit at B & H
$ 184.00 USD Least expensive shipping method
___________
$3225.09 CAD (after the current currency conversion rate)

$ 37.00 CAD Brokerage Fees
$ 362.40 CAD 12% Duty (because ARRI is made in Germany. If they made them in the US this charge would not apply)
$ 50.00 CAD Credit Card currency conversion charge
___________
$3674.49 CAD

$ 220.47 CAD 6% GST
$ ??? PST (I live in Alberta where we have no PST)

$3894.96 CAD TOTAL ordered from the US.

AND NO CANADIAN WARRANTY, Warranty must be returned to the US.
___________________________________________________________

So... I went to Matrix Video Communications here in Canada and asked what this kit would cost if I ordered it from them.

$3653.00 CAD
$ 219.18 CAD 6% GST
____________
$3872.18 CAD Total ordered from Canada $22.78 CAD less expensive than ordering from the US.

Anyway, that was a grueling ordeal figuring all this out. I hope it may serve as a guide for anyone else in Canada pondering a similar purchase.

order someplace from the US cheaper, both the price, as well as the 12% of that price will be lower, froogle.com it. also try ebay, these kits often go for less than 2000 US. used, but they are arris and pretty long lived.

It's too bad you don't live near the border. My house is literally 5 minutes away.

When I bring goods back to Canada (including an Arri 650w fresnel, last week) they only seem to be concerned about the price of the goods, not where they were manufactured. In fact, they didn't even look at the stuff - I just brought in the receipt.

Often times as long as the goods are less than say $90US, they wave you through with no taxes - can't always count on that though.
