arri fresnel use

Hi guys.

Wanted to ask about using arri fresnels. A bulb blew on my 650w last night when doing a tilt of the head (whilst it was turned on), I was under the impression it was ok to tilt or move these whilst on, but not for HMI lights. Was my tilting the cause of the bulb blowing? or just happened at the same time by coincidence.

Also when the bulb blew it tripped the circuit and blew the fuse in the plug, i replaced the bulb and the fuse in the plug head and its working fine. is it normal that fuse/circuit go at same time as bulb? The fuse is 5amp which should be fine as 250v (UK) 650w is less than 3a.

Just checking i have got everything in order or if i was making a rookie mistake.

Cheers.

Its ok to tilt a tungsten, you mean tungsten right, or a hmi while its on at least I know arri and mole richardsons can be moved for tilting and movement of actual light. Tilt ing isnt that jarring of an act movement of the light is though, but ive walked some 20ft before, hmi and tungsten. its more of a craftman ship quality id say, if it is blowing bulbs.

Also 650w can blow a circuit if there are others things using that circuit. I think something else was on that line and kicked on at the same time you were adjusting. Id also check the light do a troubleshoot on circuit known with absolutely nothing on it and plugnthe light in there. Check it for cuts or aberrations on the line. Was the plug head plastic melted when you opened the hubbel, make sure the wires are going to their respective ends of thevhubbel. Check the connections in the head of the fixture. Put a brand new bulb in and ignite it.

Tugsten lights are the simplest to check in my opinion unlike hmi and flos and leds.

Im not an acutal electrician though, just what id do

Yeah wasnt much on the same line i dont believe, so ws curious if when a bulb/fuse blows it also can surge and trip the circuit. Used it for several hours and no issue on that circuit. Might just be the bulbs lifespan was up, but not had a bulb and fuse go together which is what i found odd. Plug head wasnt melted and was all in good shape when i open it up as was the light head itself. Oh well it works with a new bulb and new fuse in it and will see if i encounter any more problems.

I can't figure this one out. The symptoms you provided don't make sense. A bulb should not blow a fuse. That indicates that at the time of failure, the bulb drew a significant overcurrent for a significant period of time. Fuses can act pretty fast, but circuit breakers do not. It takes quite a bit of overcurrent to trip a breaker.

Did the bulb break? If it did, then it may have drawn excessive current when it was exposed to oxygen. But if it did not break, I am surprised to hear a breaker tripped. I'm wondering if something else is wrong with the fixture.
