Someone is offering me a good deal on an ARRI Fesnel 650?
I like to know what is the best use for this light?
I do mostly work in small sets and doing a dcoumnentary at this time?
should I get it? Beside this light I have a flood 300 Watt light ( I made up) and
A chinese Lantern I made too

Any idea what filter I should get with this light?
Basically I like to know what job this light is good for? Backdrop light? HEP?

I'm not sure how I could use this. But the price is really good

Thanks
michelle

The 650 is a great light! Especially the Arri brand. I would scoop it up if you're getting a good price. In smaller sets it's perfectly good to key with, you can light larger backgrounds with it, pretty good for softbox use, etc. Really versatile.

What do you mean filter? Like gel?

The 650 is the basic tool for most film makers. Make sure it has barn doors and a good stand. (c-stand would be best) I don't know about the documentary applications, but for small set stuff, you will be very happy with that light. You will wish you had 3.

I have some of those and love them, you'll NEVER see a pro film set that doesn't have any 650s.

question is what's the price?
you can buy one new around 250 to 300 and another 100 for doors and scrims

Thank you all for your replies. Got it for little less that $200 with Barndoor/Scrimmers and Gels & lamp I hope it was a good deal!!

As long as it works, you made out like a bandit!

Also, I'm under the impression (and someone correct me if I'm wrong!) that the 650s also will take the 300 watt bulbs, further maximizing your flexibility.

One thing I've learned & feel compelled to tell every indie filmmaker that I know-- Arris may be more expensive, but once you go fresnel, you never look back. The control over the light is truly THAT much better than with open faced lights!

Yup, the fresnell is the light to start with. From there you can pick up open faced, PARs, HMIs, Kinos, etc. But to start, a 650 fresnell is the best choice.

enjoy!

The Arri 650 cools fast, you can run it from any outlet in the house, it is small and can fit anywhere, bulbs are cheap, you can steal a 6" scrim from a Mole Baby, and well, it's just a damn useful light. It is also easy to work on.
