Arri supplies an 168 mm (6.6") dichroic filter for the Arrilite 800. Their 650w fresnel takes a 6 5/8" (6.625") scrim, but Arri says that the filter won't work with the fresnel. Why would that be?
I think you answered your own question. 6.6 vs 6.25. the filter would not fit in the retainer. Do you own any Arri's. Gotta admit...you arent missing by much. But I think the design is to make things un-compatible...esp the scrims, filters, rings etc. I bought the dichroic filter for the 650 arri then bought the 1000w fresnel so I'm stuck with the wrong filter. Your not looking to purchase a dichroic are you? hehehehe
bwest, it's not 6.6 vs 6.25, it's 6.6 vs 6.625. But are you also saying that you bought a dichroic for the 650 Arri fresnel? That's what I'm looking for, but as far as I can tell from the Arri site only a filter frame is available specifically for the 650.
OK, I see what you mean...I missed that! Upon further investigation I'm seeing the arri dichroic filters being sold only with their flood lamps [arrilites], not the arri fresnels, so maybe the dichroic messes up the fresnel's pattern. I have the arrilite 650 dichroic, its a flood. I did notice at B&H that the 650 fresnel has scrims, snoots, etc under more accessories...in addition to the first accessary window, but no dichroic! So maybe fresnel and dichroic arent compatible?
actually thinking about this more, the fresnel spot function is quite intense and may change the color of the dichroic's color output...overpower the dichroic's mirroring effect
