Arri 1K ceramic melted black

Hello,

I recently had an Arri 1K open face light returned to me with the ceramic lamp socket melted black. The lamp itself doesn't even really seem to be blown, but the ceramic socket snapped and looks like some of the socket melted and then hardened up again. I've repaired a lot of lights, and seen a lot of blown out lamps, but I've never actually seen the ceramic melt. Anyone have any idea what might have caused this? Thanks a lot in advance.

If the bulb was not seated properly it could have allowed enough current through to cause some arcing, which is basically like holding a arc welding torch up to it.

Hmmm, that's seems pretty likely. I didn't think of that. But I can definitely see that happening with this light specifically. Thanks

Ive seen exact same thing occur before and Ill wager my money on this.

An electrical arc is plasma and plasma is used to cut through very hard things (like stainless steel plate) that other tools (like cutting torches) cannot.
I'll wager you a new bulb that your old bulb wasn't pushed in all the way.
btw---might want to push that ground wire on the right, down and to the left.
