the sales guy at BH sold me a 200w bulb for my new arri 150. He assured me it was okay to use yet on the bottom of the unit it clearly states do not excede 150w.

I have a shoot tomorrow. am I okay to use the 200w bulb?

The wattage rating of your housing is based upon how much current and heat it can safely handle. I believe a 300w bulb has lower impedance than a 150w and would therefor draw more current through it. For a 110 volt line voltage a 150w lamp would draw 1.36 Amps. (P=IxE where P is power, I is current and E is voltage OR P/E=I and 150w/110v = 1.36 Amps). A 300w lamp would draw 2.73 Amps (300w/110v = 2.73 Amps). Unless there is something in your lamp housing limiting the current, that would be exactly twice the amount of electrical current (rated power). You might get away with it but I wouldn't leave it on for very long.
A 200w would draw 1.82 Amps vs. 1.36 Amps for 150w.
