arm for c-stand

I have a new Avenger c-stand that is aprox 14' 6" tall. I'd like to attach an arm to it so I can mount a light on one end of the arm to suspend it as if it (the light) was mounted in the ceiling.

What is the term for the arm and the piece that attaches it to the stand. Is it called a 'grip arm'? I want to make sure I get the right equipment for the job. I've been doing some research on B&H, but you have to know what you're doing. Do I need an additional attachment to mount the light to the arm?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks guys!

Research

I've been doing some research and come to the assumption (dangerous, hu?) my light may be too heavy for a grip arm. All the descriptions for grip arms state they are suitable for light weight accessories and lights.

My light isn't necessarily heavy, but it's not 'light'. I think it's about 4-6 pounds. Maybe the weight of a DVX100a. Is that too heavy to attach to a grip arm to suspend in the air aprox 15' high? I think it is....

I know I'll need a counter weight if it works, but not sure what else I'd need beyond a grip arm and grip head.

Thanks guys!

Thanks Jeff.

It appears the longest grip arm/gobo on B&H is 40".

What is the best attachment to mount a light to a grip arm/gobo? Is 4-6lbs too heavy for a grip arm/gobo?

Thanks!

As long as you counterbalance the weight with sandbags and set up the stand correctly with the gobo positioned to tighten as it torques, you can add quite a bit of weight to the stands.
