Arg. You want a resume?

So I was on craigs list (most of you probably don't know what that is, but thats not really vital to my story.) and I saw an add for this company that needs someone to edit some show for them. I sent them an email saying that I was interested, they said that a lot of people emailed them, so what they're gonna do is send everyone footage from their first show, everyone will edit their own version, and they'll pick the best one. They said that they just want my resume first.

PROBLEM: I don't really have a resume, I'm a film student, and while I've done lots of work on my own stuff, I don't really have anything to show for it, except a demo reel, which they did not ask for. Any thoughts? Should I just put the stuff that I've done for myself on there? My grades from my film classes? I was part of a movie that won audience choice at a festival, does that help? Should I also put down jobs I've had that don't relate to film?

I know Craigslist!!! :D

My 2 cents would be to include all relevant experience to editing first. Then put some film industry related experience after.

Definitely mention that you're a film school student and some awards/achievements as well.

Then also mention you have a demo reel upon request.

Just my thoughts, hope it does you some good.

Good luck!!!

Re: Arg. You want a resume?

Including experience from other jobs on there definitely works... but they're a lower priority. It shows that you can stick to a job and are reliable, because people who have jobs need to be just that.

Re: Arg. You want a resume?

Alarm bells went off for me when you describe that they want you to do the work for them first, then they will pick the best one.

Umm, what guarantee do you have that they will actually pay you, should they use your edit? And, how would you know if they used your work?

Re: Arg. You want a resume?

That's a good point. Should I ask them to sign some sort of agreement saying that if they use it they will pay me?

Re: Arg. You want a resume?

the first time i read that, i was more than a little suspicious... i was thinking they'd take those projects and use them and leave you
wondering what happened to it.
