Are you happy with your Pro Mac ?

I've just ordered my Pro mac 2.66 and I hope it lives up to all I've read. Just wondering what others think of theirs? compared to the G5 how much faster is it for rendering and compression of HD ? any examples and times ?

Tons faster! Well, the 3Ghz is, at least. All the Intel CPU machines are a bit faster than the G5's. But some are not really all that much faster. the Mac Pro should give you a very noticalbe, and appreciable, increase in speed.

Is that from first-hand, real-world experience with a 3GHz Mac Pro?

I have a client who's runnig it, it's really awesome. But, Adobe's stuff still runs slow as all get out in Rosetta...

Im still on CS1 on my Intel Macs, im curious if CS2 will run better under rosetta...anyone have experience with that on any intel mac?

I only use PS when it comes to Adobe, and the Macbook Pro is only slow when working with 300dpi files , but not unbearable...the iMac 24" is actually a pretty good upgrade for PS, runs alot smoother. id say my best guess would be 35-45% faster

im not ben, but ive got a Dual G5 2.0ghz sitting here, its my main station....and it is considerably faster loading and workin in Photoshop than my Macbook Pro which i also work on during the day. MBP is 2.0ghz Dual Core Duo

I have the 2.66 mac pro w/ 2gb ram. I replaced my 1st gen dual processor 2ghz g5. It renders in fcp 5.1 and exports with compressor about twice as fast using about 200-250% of the cpus (max is 400) so yes it is fast. It will get faster when software is better optimized.

Anything that is running under Rosetta emulation (Studio Artist for example) can expect to be about 50% slower than the clock speed. Once a program is ported for Universal though, it's really fast.
