"Are you a Heather? No, I'm a Veronica."

This is my first ever tribute edit and … I never do this.
So why?
Because of what (in my opinion) is an incredible script, an incredible film,
but the main reason is so the new generation of filmmakers don't miss it.

This film is very much in the vein of American Beauty, yet preceded it by ten years.
It mixes David Lynch with John Waters with The Breakfast Club. It takes a difficult topic like teen suicide,
turns it on its head and presents it as a parodic dark comedy and induced a cult following.
Who knows … it may have even prevented some suicides.
It's certainly a departure from the usual droll that is Hollywood and presents us a gem of originality and creativity.

Maybe you're strictly on the mainstream, in which case – don't watch it, it's not for you.
But if you're from my gen, and you remember how it influenced everyone
then drop a comment on this thread and give Heathers the props it deserves.

"My son's a homosexual...and I love him. I love my dead, gay son." I probably shouldn't find that line hysterical but I still do. Yeah, it's wrong. But funny.

I laughed as well and I don't think its wrong when its taken in context - son was homophobic.
I love JD's line right after "How do you think he would react to his son with a limp wrist and a pulse?"
Veronica laughs then stops when she sees the crying sister.
