I currently have a set of Canon FD lenses including a 200 f2.8, 135 f2, 100 f4 macro, 85 f1.8, 50 f1.2, 35 f2, and a 24 f2 and I've found myself wondering if there's any point in getting anything wider than the 24mm lens.
I've read a lot about the 17mm f4 and the 20mm f2.8 and it seems that the benefit gained by having these lenses in my collection would not necessarily outweigh the cost.
As far as I can tell, the ultrawide lenses have such a high depth of field that I might as well use the stock lens on my camcorder and forget about selective focus on the wide shots. Also, there seems to be a serious problem with Chromatic aberration with lenses this wide when they're not stopped down (I assume they would have to be open because they're so slow), not to mention the vignetting problems that are inherent with the ultrawides.
Has anyone out there used any of the ultrawide 35 lenses on a project and had good results?
