Are the Wachowski's in director's jail?

I mean I know the Matrix sequels made SOME money but I also know they didn't make nearly as much money as everybody who invested thought they would. There were definitely some losers in that deal. Also, the sequels are universally considered to be awful with really bad storytelling and terrible directing choices (The Merovigian is one of the dumbest most annoying villians ever, the pacing of the movie is terrible, the casting sucked - jada pinkett, inconsistencies in the mythology - some "Subway Man" can beat up the savior of mankind. unneeded scenes (the random fight between Neo and Serve before the Big Burly fight), etc., etc. All that combined with the disappointing (relatively speaking) box office and the fact that we haven't seen the Wachowski's directing in awhile (yes, I know they produced V for Vendetta) made me wonder if they're being punished.

did larry really turn into a woman?

i heard he had a sex change or something....which is weirded out.

The Matrix was so tightly done. Then those two sequels, oof! Makes me think some genius ghost writer helped out on the original.

c.g.,

excellent question. I wonder. Movie jail for them.

Maybe they just haven't found the right project to destroy.

I'm sure they'll be back to ruin something soon.

The original Matrix is such a masterpiece. It stands brilliantely on its own....

And then they had to ruin it with those horrendous sequels.

I really wonder how Andy is coping with this whole woman thing.

I mean, this may sound cold, but if my brother became a sister... I wouldn't hang with him, or write screenplays with him.... I would not..

I would Spencer, I would.

EDIT: Or maybe I wouldn't - I suppose it depends - I mean it's not like he's a different person - just looks different.

Actually, (and unfortunately) sequels made quite insane amount of money despite their quality:

Reloaded - $737mil worldwide with a budget of 127mil, which makes it an All-Time #20 grossing movie.
Revolutions - $412mil with an even lower budget of 110mil. Sure not as impressive, but it made every penny back and more and with the success of the 2nd one they could screen this for free and not lose any money anyway :(

Oh, and for comparison, the original made $375mil

Holy poo poo you guys are closeminded

I am in fact EXTREMELY close minded. I don't do drugs because statistics say they're bad, I find communism to be shaky when executed, and I'm definately awkward when thinking about what would happen if my brother were to have a sex change.

That said, you really think it's not a trifle weird when a guy hooks up with a professional dominatrix, gets a buncha hair transplants, and has his genitals MUTILATED to make them look like parts of another gender?

I mean, I don't know, I'm close minded, maybe that's common place in the world of free thinkers. I know I wouldn't wanna try dating in the world of free thinkers if that's the case. Especially if the free thinkers look like "Laurenca" Wachowski.

And in response to the first comment, I think it would be weird because it's not the same person that you know. The person you know has been putting up a lie for their entire lives, and then decide to show their true character. That's probably what happened to Larry; he hid his lie very well because he knew that it wouldn't be accepted and his life would be ruined. Now, a rich social recluse with a wife who was dating someone who did the same thing, except the opposite, he can let it all out. Like I said, just a trifle weird, the human subconscious.
(Oh I'm such an undereducated douche)

Vic, if you remember though, they thought Revolutions was going to make like $250 mil opening weekend. They thought those movies were going to make a billion each, easy. So in that sense, they failed big time. Also, I'd like to see how much they reported on profit after expenses. Let's just say the accounting books used to pay off points are going to tell a different story.

I'm so disappointed with these two. They give my hometown a bad name.

Imagine the guy's poor wife. I bet she didn't know about the cross-dressing until well into their marriage. Then what do you do? You start making excuses. "Everybody has their weird things." But then they start staying out late at clubs, bringing home dominatrixes. There's only so many excuses you can make.

This furthers my theory that it is impossible to stay with the person you're with after you become famous. You met under completely different circumstances. Are there any couples out there that have been able to survive this phenomenon?

I think the article said that they actually lost money on Revolutions. Or maybe I read that wrong.
