Are rails necessary for Matte Box, HVX200?

Hi,
I needed to find out if it is safe to use the Vocas Matte box MB-250 on the HVX200 without rails barsadapter and a MBS-100. I have heard it can loosen the lens in the HVX but does anyone know of this actually happening to someone they know.

I have also been advised by a professional camera store that it is an added expense that is just not necessary.

I will be using an 82mm wide angle lens, the matte box and filters.

I would be very grateful for any replies.

Thank you

The mattebox is attached to the rails not the camera. You wouldn't want it attached to your lens. They are heavy unlike the light lens hood that comes standard.

A rail kit is cheaper than a new camera. Whenever I rent either a Mattebox or follow focus the rail kit and baseplate is free.

Thanks for the reply.

I have just purchased the Vocas Matte box W 82, which is the MB-250 that fits a wide angle lens for the HVX200. This comes as is and clips directly onto the front of the camera, without the rail support / bars adapter.

So if it is optional and it works without, is it necessary?

They do make snapon matte boxes for cameras. Oh withuk you took the words right out of my mouth. Rails are the best though! I feel much more secure using my rig with rails versus standalone. Out of curiosity, what wide angle lens are you using? The 16x9, inc. one? Century optics?
