Yeah I definitely trust mine. The waveform is a perfect match to the one in my field monitor (lh80). If you want to spend some money a good HD broadcast monitor (assuming your working in HD) is worth having around IMO. The panasonic 17 and 26" are great for editing with.
yes shooter, definitely over stressing, what can I say I'm a perfectionist. Its a surf video going direct to dvd and will play in film festivals. My main concern is just getting the best image possible....at the moment i'm burning dvd's of the film and playing them back on a few different tv's and tweaking it. but its coming along and once i tweak my blacks and add some saturation to some of the footage then i'll be set.
If its really important Paunch...get a pro grader to sit in with you. Get the job done and pick the graders brains as you go so you are on to it next time.
i might do that, will see how it plays out...one of the major problems was with how some of the footage was shot and as you know you can only do so much repair in post.
shooter do you know if having the black levels below 0 causes any problems?/
I have never experienced problems "crushing blacks. In fact I used to use the Ped on ther camera to crush them and had a little tweaker device that the video engineers were reluctant to allow me to use. (But I ceratinly did once I discovered where to insert it)
