Are all these effects created in after effects?

Are these effects achievable with just After Effects? If not what plug ins would be needed? ( The morphing and layering 1:34 - 1:36, 2:19-2:25, 2:39-2:42, 3:45-3:50) I really like the clip with the fast moving clouds in the background (7:20-7:25)and the rider in the foreground. Any links to some tutorials would be great too thanks, mark.

there is a lot more going on than just AE. they use multiple cams for sure. i won't even pretend to know how all that morphing is done but i suspect that if they use AE, it is only one of many tools.

It is probably several software packages, but to answer your question, technically speaking, YES, this can all be done in After Effects. Whether you would want to use AE exclusively is another question altogether.

The cloud shot is muti cam a la matrix.
They record the stunt, and keep the cameras going and just mask him into the sped up shot for each camera.
Same with the "morphs" they just mask him out and then put in the stills or the moving mask so it looks like there is more then one person or that he leaves snap shots behind.
There is also some cg in that video.

For that door shot, either the whole door is fake or it is an empty frame and the camera just walks threw the hole and they add in the glass and the bar in the middel in post.
Either way the glass is fake, I'm 90% sure

If you want to achieve these sorts of effects, you better get out of the mentality that a plugin can do it all. There's a lot of sophisticated work here with a number of different tools (definitely 3d tracking, compositing, camera mapping, retiming, etc.) and I'll go ahead and say that it absolutely CAN'T be done only in After Effects – not if you want it to look this good.

The timelapse cloud shot could also be done with motion-control gear, two passes at different speeds.

A couple of the especially tricky shots, the one at 7:20, and the peep hole, are done with the aid of a 3D program.

The shots where there are multiples of him and even the ones where the camera is moving can be done in After Effects. I saw something with a skier doing that someone posted on Vimo, using only AE. Not sure how, exactly, looks like an Echo that is masked.

You will need projection mapping and probably basic 3D modeling and texturing as well.

You may be able to pull of something similar if much much rougher in AE, but if you wanted that, you will need some extra hands.

"I'll go ahead and say that it absolutely CAN'T be done only in After Effects"

I second Matt. As a purely technical question -- it can be done, and has been. Granted, it wouldn't be as practical, would take you 10x longer than necessary, and not look quite as good as this. The poster was asking if it is technically possible, which it is. Now is it practical? Does it make any sense? No. Do I think the maker of the video is using AE only? Nope. But you know, our post and F/X team have had to do a good 60% of this work, so I see no reason the remaining 40% (albeit more roughly). couldn't be done.

And if you bothered to quote the other half of my sentence, you'd be agreeing with me rather than disagreeing just to make a point. *golf clap*

You are referring to this quote:
"Not if you want it to look this good."

This directly contradicts "It can't be done" in the same sentence. Nobody was asking if it can be done THAT GOOD, it was asked if it can be done. No need for sarcasm, please.

It does not directly contradict it, it clarifies. Sure, you could hack together something resembling camera mapping with a 180° near-camera pass on a 3d foreground figure in AE, but you wouldn't if you wanted it to look any good.

Is there something inaccurate about that statement? Anyway, my point to the OP was simply that it's artist skill and understanding of a variety of tools and techniques, and not some off-the-shelf plugin, that makes all the difference. This is the same as people who see a great photograph and the only question they can ask is "what camera did you use?" It's an absurd question that's insulting to the creator.

Ah, the old straw man argument.

You obviously don't feel you've contradicted yourself, and that's fine; it's really up to you. :) In any case, I've already said my piece.

oooooooh....catfight!!!

oh and by the way, i have a plugin that can produce every effect in this video with just a few clicks. it came with imovie. it will even go out on a boat and shoot the footage for you.

Can it be used on a 486 PC running windows 3.11?

I'm not sure about this "few clicks" idea, can't they come up with a plug-in that does all the work with out me having to do anything?

Did I not get the joke? "You need nicotine man, nicotine is good" then he tells him how to land the big trick, the kite surfer gets a light bulb above his head as he smiles, then nails the trick with a score climax? WTF was that? A hidden cigarette company subliminal add? Is that how the whole thing was funded?

Please someone tell me I am tripping or something.

Aside from that the kite surfing stuff was nothing short of spectacular.
