Are ad crowdsourcing contests good or bad for film makers?

i kind of think bad.

Basically the big corporation gets a free commercial from someone who put in ideas, energy and time.

This is the ultimate craigslist "you'll get exposure" technique.

Then again... national ad is a national ad....

tough one.

Not good for everyone who doesn't win.

And IMO not so good for the company doing it as well.

is that where all the ultra quirky, borderline-amateur-looking-but-kinda-professional ads for name brands are coming from?
