Today I had a shoot outside but no sun to work with! What? It's San Diego people it's always sunny! LOL. Well not on this day. It was grey and was supposed to rain at the same time the shoot was scheduled. I decided to go for it and at least try to get it done.

I NEVER shoot talent without some kind of lighting and the shoot was in a park. No power so an HMI was out. But wait! The Light Storm is about 1K worth of light and it's daylight. Plus it has a battery option. Yep it worked great. Actually better than I expected. Dodged yet another bullet in production. :-D Don't you love it when that happens?

Aputure has really changed the game in the past few years for folks working in the lower equipment budgets.

Even when price is no object, a few of their lights are just ridonkulously handy.
Like the 672C variable color panel.
It's small, it weighs like nearly nothing, and runs off standard cheap Sony NP batteries. You can mount, plant, boom, toss, GAFF TAPE these things just about anywhere for fills of any temp. I don't go off to ANY shoot without them. There's just no reason to.

Great as these are, I'd be cautious about the idea that they're equivalent to 1K of anything. Perhaps 5:1, if you're feeling really friendly about it. Mainly it seems powerful because it's well collimated.

Fine product, well priced. Just not a 1K.
