Aputure buys Prolycht!

Super interesting. I'm sure there's probably some kind of non-disclosure clause or something between Aputure and Prolycht, but I'd love to hear Mitch Gross' thoughts on this when he can.

As nice as Prolychts are, they are no doubt for the 1%...too expensive for today's 1-man, 1-woman shoots, and now Aputure - who single-handedly changed the modern lighting industry, IMO - can have some of that Prolycht reputation under their brand.

Someone else in the other thread just brought attention to a price drop for the 675 at B&H...quite the move here:

Im interested.

Ive become convinced that sidus link and apture are the place intelligent $$$ goes.

I love sudus link

But the english, the youtube, the support are total sh___t

im involved in a feature and we want to use sidus to make a party scene. https://www.instagram.com/reel/CwTUucfKES5/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA ==

And the app is just not quite there. of if it is I dont understand.

If mitch could communicate the app or pass upgrade requests.. that could be a killer combo

In my biggest dream lights would be dropped on a TL in resolve and exported as a .led !

Aputure has acquired Prolycht. Key members of the Prolycht engineering team as well as myself (I'm no engineer) are now a part of Aputure. We're looking to incorporate the best of Prolycht into Aputure. And while we're at it we are not leaving our Prolycht clients behind. There's a new firmware for the Orion 675 FS that adds sACN functionality, and there will be ongoing warranty support available via service@prolycht.com. Onward and upward.

I thought it was interesting that I received an email yesterday from Hot Rod Camera for a "24 Hour Flash Sale" on Prolycht.

What affect will this have, if any, on the Prolycht/Dedo collaboration...? Will the Dedo collaboration carry over to Aputure?

Mitch.
It would be ace if your place as an english speaker and an old person could do some magic so the sidus link app is usable by old english speaking people.

this is very interesting but also completely baffling.

im stru
ggling to switch 'scenes' in the app without breaking the other 'scene' - the app has no mouse over.
works in the app like INT could mean INTerval or INTensity

It has so much potential but hangs by a string right now in terms of being 'set ready'

I don't know if there's an answer to that as yet, but Dedo is free to continue doing what he's currently doing: selling Neo Colors and projectors & intensifiers that work on Prolycht (as well as some Aputure) Bowens mount lights.

I'll need to studty Sidus more before I can give recommendations, but I can tell you that over the summer Aputure hired some top industry people who will be working on future Sidus updates.

Also, it doesn't look like Aputure has a presence at B&H's Bild expo - how come?

Ben Dynice is a gaffer in LA who used to work with Quasar and is now at Aputure. Tim Kang also used to be at Quasar and is now at Aputure. There are others as well.

Lots of companies aren't going to be at the B&H Bild expo. It's the first time having it and many weren't sure if it would appeal to their clients. Prolycht wasn't going to have a booth either.

Fun fact: I'll be there in my final official duties for Accsoon. I'll be manning the Accsoon booth and showing off their excellent tools. Wish I could do both but there's only so many hours in the day.

I didn't mean to be a noodge -- it just reminded me of that movie line. Sounds like a good team, though. And it's too bad there won't be Bild-related Aputure discounts... Like some others, I've become quite enamored of the Sidus Link app and plan to stick with Aputure for future lighting purposes for the sake of remote control.

By the way, does Aputure plan on bringing the high-color accuracy chipset from the Amaran x S line into other fixtures? Which reminds me, I was planning on starting a thread to discuss preferred color accuracy metrics...

You mean the Dual-blue chipset? Yes, that technology is a part of the upcoming Electro Storm lights announced at CineGear LA. There's a 2600w adjustable CCT and a 1500w full color fixture. Both of these powerful COB lights will incorporate advanced color chipset technology as well as a host of other features.

Viewing this on a job I am not sure that any apture lights can be used in a UK professional production.

To make a grown up company this must be sorted.

Aputure is for the 99%, YouTube and company.

Stuff with those kind of stickers/notes/demands is for the 1%, ARRI and company.

Both can coexist, and need to.

In the uk even a toothbrush will have a rating - even if it a bad rating. The ap600 promo has all sorts of shower shots..
but without the paperwork it is useless however competent the actual fixture (professionally)

one hopes that folk like Mitch might be able to communicate that

Well, on the plus side they should be able to test and certify their existing units and then you can put them to work. ...assuming that the powers that be heed your call...

Hey mitch - it will be great to have an english native link to aptrue.

Ive been gaffing the mini feature for two weeks now. Apture/Sidus really made it possible to get the looks for the director.

After 2 days having the ipod on a cstand is part of essentical production kit. Having Joe (less than 30 years) to drive the app is awesom.

Sidus wants a log in even if you have no internet in the woods.. dumb. Joe makes a hotspot in seconds from his phone but he understands that stuff. Id be lost and my phone lives on charge on the 'camera table' because I read the bit of the call sheet that says no phones on set.

Sidus seems 40% done.

i think I have a video to show soon.
