Aputure 7" 1080p Monitor with SDI Input / Vector-scope / RGB Parade : $499

Eric, how is the contrast compared to the VS2-fine that you reviewed before. Actually, in general, features aside, can you quickly confirm whether or not the IQ is the same or better than the less featured models by Aputure?

Thanks,
O

It's better. Color seems improved and the way the monitor handles highlights is much improved. Big problem with the FINE model. Tools are pretty nice. The sunhood is the best I've used in an included accessories, however I'm not sure if the build quality of the sunhood will hold up to heavy use.

Excellent review Eric! Now should I downgrade from two Ninja Flames to these? I don't really need the external recording. Tough call. Too bad there isn't a high brightness version at $599 or $699.

Hows the peaking erik? Do yiu have a sample? I use a smallhd 501 and its probably the best implementation there is.

Ya know? I'm not big on peaking so I didn't use it. It's burned me as much as helped on cameras and other monitors, but I'll check it out and add it to the review. Oh and yes the 501 peaking is nice.

Yeah I need a bright model monitor really bad. They are so expensive so I'm holding out. At least the sun hood on the VS-5 makes it the best option right now. I would keep those Flames. I saw them at NAB and they are very nice.

Ugh...the DELAY.

Yeah, I think I'll hold off until that can be improved....IF it can be improved.
Delay on monitors just gives me a headache. Too distracting.

Ugh...the DELAY.

What is the delay on this monitor? How does it compare to others?

I realize that delay is just what is going to happen in this HD-SDI / HDMI world, but I agree, sometimes it's really hard to shoot when there is noticeable delay.

They have just released an update that addresses the delay. In my very unscientific testing the lag is just barely noticeable now and personally wouldn't bother me at all. YMMV of course.

The latency has been reduced by 50% with the new firmware update.
I don't notice it at all while shooting however when talent is delivering lines or talking to camera I can see it and it still drives me crazy. :-D. Again with shooting anything else it's not noticeable.
