Aputure 300d

Yesterday I saw a Aputure C300d LED on display in the Pro Dept of Samys’ in Hollywood, & supposedly they have others available for sale.

I just saw a post on the facebook group by Gasa E Kenny. (Blackmagic Ursa Mini & Ursa Mini Pro Users)
"
aputure 300d vs PixaPro 200D using URSA Mini Pro False Colour.
Lens Sigma 18-35 at f8
The lights were placed next to each other with the 300d Being on the left and 200D on the right.
300d £1074 vs 200D £1,399.99 and you get 3 of them comes with 3 light stands, Barn doors too."

The light output seems almost exactly the same, only the 200D is a lot cheaper. It has the same bowens mount, is maybe a bit louder, but has no V-mount option. But just for the light output, it seems a good cheap alternative?

Cheers

"To my naked eye, the 200D looks more like a 5500K light than the 300D which looks more like a 5250-5300K. 200D has no visible green ages and all attachments including the mini dome look clean white. Light output looks about the same also, even those the 200D is rated at just 198Watts. The 200Ds Fan is it's downfall, as it's very audible."

If the fan on the 200D can be modded like on the 100D with one that is more silent, it's the light to beat for interior shoots.
515$, Bowens mount, 95 CRI, great output.

No V-Mount though.

It would be interesting to see how the Pixapro does with a fresnel as far as creating hard light. With just the reflector, the reviews online show that it creates multiple shadows, so not quite a hard source.

Check out around 8:24 in this review of the pixapro 100mk2+: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TiiY2eoNuK4

You can buy the Aputure Fresnell piece and mount it onto the pixapro, and the problem is solved. I might be picking one of these up. I mean I like that the Aputure 300D takes V-mount batteries. But it takes 2 of em to run. Which is quite the hassle, that I probably wouldnt use anyway.

Is anyone can explain me what is the difference between Aputure 300d & PixaPro 200D .

PixaPro 200D seems more plastic ,
They are both loudly ,
PixaPro 200D has no option for V-mount batteries ( so far )

I am already spend over 1000£ for Aputure 300d , but what I can see now, I could get PixaPro 200D for half price of 300d .
I start to think that was not the best investment .

Aputure has quite the hipster/amateur following so your social media will benefit hugely with any posts that feature their products. This is similar to how people neatly lay out the contents of their camera bag showing a zhiyun crane/sony a7s from a hotel room. Also, neither light's fan noise is important because everyone shoots slow motion paired with trendy music.

In all seriousness, you've probably outlined the main differences. Plus you've already bought the Aputure, it should serve you well.

It will, if they fix green tint , and fix fan noise . This 2nd one bother me the most . Solution like this here http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?357270-Silencing-the-loud-Aputure-C300D
is ridiculous . 20 foot 4-pin XLR power cable for ballast it does not convince me as well .

What about some minus green gel? Why won't that fix it?

If fan noise or fixing it is such a headache and you bought it anyway then yes, it was a bad purchase.

The aputure 300d is for people who want big soft blobs of light, ugly hard light, and don't mind "hacks" to overcome noise issues.

this solution sounds like from here http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread...-Aputure-C300D
I spend 1k ,so why we have to fix themself something what Aputure should do before release 300D

I believed that 300D will be free from all issue ( green tint , loudly fan ) , Aputure 120D dose not has any issue like 300D . Aputure had much more time to do not just equal quality light like 120D , but in some aerial even better .

the green tint only occur at very close distance if you do not put any modifier on the 300d. Seems to come from the diffracted light of the piece of glass in front of the LED chip. Do not seems to cause any problem during shooting.

Color fringing like this happens to Lekos as well.

Does anyone know if there's something like a Bowens mount to Leko mount adapter? I'd love to be able to place these inside a leko, or at least for there to be a reasonably priced LED leko that had good CRI.

Must be possible to make one.... just like the Bug-A-Beam.

Companies will keep cutting corners and putting out sub-par products as long as you give them your money and accept the shortcomings like loud fans and inconsistent color output.

Yes just like you, I am in the market for affordable LED lights with a high output. But I refuse to give a company my hard earned cash for a light which needs to be modified before I can use it for an interview.

Do you hear me lighting manufactures?

It's 2018

Start using higher quality components like quiet fans, greater consistency in manufacturing and quality check.

So your profit margin drops a point. That's much better than loosing your clientele all together to the next startup which will listen to the end user purchase decision maker.

Does anybody know how to calculate how much light a light generates at certain meters?

Pixapro 100dii
50cm: 35,800 lux
1m: 8400 lux
5m: ??

Aputure 120d
50cm: 14000 lux
1m: 3300 lux
5m: ??

Aputure ls1s
50cm: 30300 lux
1m: 10500 lux
5m: ??

1: By looking up these lumens. I am actually surprised would this mean my aputure ls1s is brighter at 5meter then a Pixapro 100dii/aputure 120t which is more tunneled?? Now im confused, I thought it would be much brighter then a ls1s.
2: What would the lux be for each light at 5m??

I really dont get that 120d number.... that would mean around 300fc at one meter. But somehow with the lumiair on it and 2metres away, iso 2000 I end up at f5,6.
