Applying Effects to Live switcher event - Need suggestions!!

I have been trying to research a product or products needed to produce a live show for a client. My client wants to have a live performance of his act shot by multiple cameras, SD/HD capable but we have a few Sony EX series cams but would like inputs that could except other connections. en

Immediately I'm looking to have the ability to shoot on the multi cams, pipe into a switcher and project to screens onstage. This is simple and I have done this before with a variety of swtchers. The problem I'm facing is that we are looking to apply B&W effects or retro effects like vingetting, early TV distortions etc. I would like to have the ability to add this into the video feed or post process but not sure what is the best route to take.

I don't want to limit myself to just a B&W effect, I am hoping to find an expandable solution that will allow me to use effects similar to the magic bullet FX suites or other creative tools. Is it possibly to take a feed and dependably apply effects realtime prior to projecttion to big screen and what would be the best method.

I appreciate any feedback!!! ...thank you!!

Do you have the switcher already? If so which one? Are you trying to do this for free? If not what is your budget? Does the projection have to be HD? Do you have a modern powerful Mac? I actually do something like this all the time and can think of at least 8 or 9 different way to try and pull it off.

This video is an example. Everything you see was recorded live to tape. The only edits were cuts. I took the best moments of a 2 hour long show and straight cut the video to a studio recorded track.

Hey thanks for response....this is a paying gig but also my client is purchasing whatever gear I need to get the job done. I am researching Datavideo and Tricaster equipment presently for the switcher....I need to be able to use multiple inputs from XDCAM's to handy cams and all in HD....if it also supports SD that is fine.

I need to be able to capture from the cams, send to switcher and then have final output "effected" prior to the projector. I would like to have flexibility to change this channel as needed. One priority right now is to have the look of old world TV. IE: "The Ed Sullivan Show",....B&W, Vingetting, scratches,... possibly with magic bullet or another software package. My concern is I need this final feed that is "effected" to be a live stream for live viewing. ....no rendering and sent directly to the projector.

I hope I am explaining this well enough.....again, I would like flexibility to change this final feed for future use or as new effects hit the market that I could incorporate.

Thanks for any help!!

Easy answer is a Mac Pro, as many Black Magic Cards as you have cameras, and the Software called Modul8. It is the software I used for the demo shown and it supports up to 4 live inputs. In other configs it supports 7 projectors, but that is not with all the capture cards.

I know HD is awesome but is it an absolute requirement for projection. The whole project gets much easier if you can do 640x480. I have some pdf's somewhere that I created in Omnigraffle to help me crew setup at a gig. I will try to find it in hopes it explains what my word can not. Your setup is fairly basic, but it gets more expensive with HD and more then 4 cameras.
