Applying Alpha in Quicktime

Hi everyone, I wanted to know if there's any other codecs instead Apple Animation that we can apply the Alpha in a Quicktime movie? (RGB+A) I wanted to shoot some effects and put them in a bank for later use. But I find HD Animation codec is way heavy! Got other alternative?

There are not many choices in light files that contain an alpha channel. If you apply heavy compression the matte edges will degrade. Nobody likes crunchy edges on their composites.
