The latest version of Apple's operating system — Mac OS X v10.6 — will arrive at retail and online stores this Friday, Aug 28 a week or more before we had expected it.
The upgrade from Leopard, which is the current version 10.5, will cost $29, and beat Microsoft's Windows 7’s formal market introduction by nearly two months.
Originally announcedfor September by Apple at its Macworld event in January, the system is packed with engineering improvements and refinements: nearly 9 out of 10 of the system’s elements have been tweaked.

I'm sure this is written somewhere else on the forum, but just in case someone hasn't seen it: Snow Leopard is a nice edition to OSX 10.5x - but just remember that it will not speed up your apps (for now) or do any magic tricks. It has some neat new features (Grand Central, to name one) - but will rely on future apps to take advantage of before any speed increase is noticed. The most immediate item you'll notice is an extra 5GB of disk space cleared up from the original Leopard OS. This is because all the 32bit PowerPC code has been removed.

Also - if you run Adobe CS3 products on your mac, take note that Adobe has dropped support for CS3 under Snow Leopard.

I know there's a few SL threads on this site, but I'll post on this one.

Upgraded last night. No problems so far. Programs open up nice and fast. Screen colors even seems a bit more vibrant.

25 bucks at Best Buy.
