Apple's Insomnia Contest

Jimmy competed in the stuffed bunny competition the same way he lived his life... With gusto and a tendency to overdo things.

is voting closed? I can't tell...
and I'm also unclear... (surprise)...
If they announce the top 25 today, we automatically know who one of the winners is... but the site says that both winners will be announced on the 20th. So I guess that means we don't find out who the top 25 are until then either. This whole competition blows... Can't wait til next year...

Greetings Insomniacs,

The public rating period is closed as of 12:00am Saturday.
We're now busy tallying the final results of the public ratings and will be sending the top 25 films to our celebrity judges for viewing. We will announce the public rating winner, the judge's favorite and the Slingjam Creative Award winner on November 20th, at 6pm Eastern time.

Answers to some frequently asked questions:

When will you announce the 25 finalists from the public rating period?
Thanks to all of your hard work promoting your films we have a very large number of ratings that were collected during the public rating period. We will be using the next several days to ensure that our rating tallies are accurate and confirming the eligibility of the top 25 teams. We will announce the top 25 films at the same time as the grand prize winners, on November 20th, at 6pm Eastern time.

What does this mean for the top 4 films in the Facebook Student Gallery application?
Due to the reasons above, it's possible that adjustments may need to be made to the ranking of the 4 films in the Facebook application. The final ranking of these 4 films will also be announced on November 20th at 6pm Eastern time.

Where will we find the winners and a list of the 25 finalists?
Check the Insomnia Gallery on November 20th at 6pm to see the final standings.

Wow. They still don't get it. Start to finish, poorly planned and executed.

Insomnia 2008!

I have been told that emails were sent out yesterday to the prospective top 25 asking them for release forms and behind-the-scenes type stories. I guess they want to make sure all of the under review films are legit before they come out with their final list on the 20th.

I heard that the 'celebrity judges' are not actually reviewing the films. One of my friends works for one of the judges, and he said HE is the one who's gonna get stuck watching them all and voting. What a sham.

I'm at a real crossroads because I want an ipod nano but really don't want to support those jerks...might have to go with some 3rd party crap just so I can sleep at night.

I don't think it's as much a "sham" as it is that Apple just didn't know what they were getting into this year. With 200 entries last year they probably expected the same turn out. I'm a big supporter of Apple... with my G5 Tower at home, MacPro Tower at my office, my iPod and my iPhone (a little ridiculous when I think about it!). This is the first time, for me, that I've ever felt like they ****ed up or I got burned...and It doesn't bother me too much because, well, I made another movie to add to my reel...and it's one I'm proud of. That's not to say it wouldn't be nice to win. I could use I laptop...

I had a slight hope that Apple would announce the top 25 and winners on time, but alas, they have yet to meet a single deadline for this competition. Considering this festival is based around the concept of a tight deadline, you'd think Apple would meet theirs.

For those who don't know, an email was sent out saying that the celebrity judges haven't finished watching the films, so the winners won't be announced for nearly another week. The announcement has now been delayed to next Monday at 6pm EST.

ha! This is complete BS! None of the judges are even watching the films! SHAM SHAM SHAM I denounce apple! I just bought a ZUNE and feel great! AGHHHHHHH

Wtf? The top 25 are posted!!! http://edcommunity.apple.com/insomnia_fall07/collection.php?collectionID=5

wow the top 25 are awful. they are so boring and have no stories, they are just silent black and white crap that i cant even watch 1 minute of. i enjoy watching random entries more than these

Watch Preheat. It's not a high concept thriller. It does, however, exemplify a shred of human nature, which these tops of pop don't do. :violent5:

At least we can watch each other's entries. :Drogar-Happy(DBG):

#4 I found especially bad, btw.

Everyone should email Apple and suggest that next year, they conduct the festival like YouTube's recent fest.... where all the submissions are screened AND THEN public voting begins with a top entries. That, to me, makes a whole lot more sense. There are so many videos that were entered into this contest that had substance and style - and even more importantly, TALENT. Very few of these "top 25" hold a candle to some of the films that didn't make it (mainly DVXUser entries).
