I have a powermac G4 933 its a few years old. The superdrive recently stopped burning DVD-R discs. I can still burn regular cds but it wont burn DVDS. I also have a 17" powerbook it works fine it has burned all the ones that the tower wouldnt burn so I know its not a DVD-R problem. Any suggestions other than check the Apple website. I have updated the current drivers and it still doesnt burn DVD-R discs.

Re: Apple Superdrive Malfunction ?

I thought that you could use 1x-4x on a 1x drive. But the only draw back was that you could only burn as fast as your burner could burn at those speeds. Is that my problem, never thought of that. Do they still sell the old 1x DVDS ?

Re: Apple Superdrive Malfunction ?

It is generally at least worth trying to use media only made for speeds your burner can do, although I would have thought that the 1x-4x would work.

You could try www.shop4tech.com. I've had good experiencees with them in the past.

If all else fails, you could just update the burner. At 1x, it's probably about time anyway, don't you think. If you get the Panasonic DVR-107 you can use it internally and have it work with iDVD, if that's an issue. And those are pretty cheap now because the 108 came out a while ago.

Sounds like a firmware problem, search Apple support for update on your drive.
