Apple RAM

Should I pay B&H $450 bucks to put in 2 gigs of ram into a mac, or should i buy the RAM myself on ebay and put it in myself for about half the price?

is it that hard to put RAM in a power mac?

I asked this same question a few weeks back. Several people recommended Crucial ram, so I bought 2 gigs from newegg.com. It was a little over $200. Great ram, money well spent. Unless you are completely technologically challenged, installing ram is really easy, especially on a G5. I say save your dough, go Crucial.

I bought the RAM for my iMac on ebay and it works fine. If the seller says it is compatible and if the seller has a good reputation, I would think it should work.

YES! The powermacs are VERY simple to upgrade, they just unclip and open up. One thing though - Make sure the RAM is the same type and speed as already installed! Adding different RAM can actually REDUCE the performance of your computer.

Your manual should explain the process pretty clearly.

Since the Mac im getting comes with 512mb in it should i get (3) 512 sticks or take out the 512 and get (2) 1 gig sticks ?

More, smaller sticks tend to be faster as they can work in parallel. I know that used to be true and I guess it still is, although the technology has moved on a lot now, so it may no longer be the limiting factor. The only advantage of 1 gig sticks is that you have more free slots for later upgrades.
