Hey guys any ideas as to when the new apple-intel desktop will hit stores? any news on what they be known as? and what to look for in terms of features/speed & price?

I so much hope they come with blue ray/ HD DVD burners :D

Am looking at dell 24" & 30" LCDs for my next editing suite any experiences with any? How do they compare to the apple cinema displays?

I notice in some basic video editing apps like imovie & windows movie maker you have the option of viewing your timeline fullscreen... now why do the pro apps miss this feature? wouldnt it be nice to view it all full screen before rendering out a .mov or .avi? fair enough if i have to render all my transitions & effects but at least have the option to view full screen straight from timeline... probably something that can be added in FCP6 :)

There has been no such word on any G6. Which i doubt will be the name since Intel has a different way of naming their processors.

The most i remember hearing on Intel desktops were mutters of maybe something being announced later this year. It seems that the focus right now is switching over all their current consumer based macs (ie. the Macmini, Imac, power and ibooks) I think the PowerMac G5 line will be the last one to be switched over. Although I'm purely speculating right now so i could very well be proved wrong and something could be announced in the next week or two.

Apple likes to keep people on their toes with these kinds of things so honestly you could expect an announcement anytime between the moment you read this and a year or so. Heck maybe an Intel desktop will be announced at their special event next Tuesday although i think thats a highly unlikely scenario. In the meantime we'll have to remain waiting with baited breathe and our adequate Quadro G5s.

You can watch full screen in FCP5 now. Go to:
View>Video Playback>Digital Cinema Desktop Preview-Main

Thanks guys, But That brings me back to the same question as to what they be called? lol the thing is i need a new system as soon as possible coz my old system is just going too slow for what i do now... therefore i cant wait for the new desktop line to start shipping... i would have bought a quad G5 ages ago if there was no switching to intel but i guess it be worth waiting for em coz when they come they'l be sweet.

Watch for announcements from Mac on Feb 28th and again on April 1st. No idea what it will be, but rumors are flying around. The 28th they are having some special-invite party... and April 1st is their 30th anniversary.

they'll have an announcement on april 1st too because it's the end of the first quarter. they do all their macworld meetings at the beginning of each new quarter.

Nothing like an April fools announcement.
I can feel the air from money flying out of my bank account right now.
