On my wish list would be a pair of (and i'm not even gonna get gready now) 17inch apple flat displays- ok 23inch, its a wish list isnt it?!

But being realsistic theres not a chance in hell (after sussing them out) that I'm gonne be able to get myself a pair, for obvious reasons.

So my question is, as an apple user, can anyone recommend a cheaper alternative which still have the quality?

:adam:

Hey Adam!

I've got a pair of cheap 17" flat panels (Envision) and they work great! I paid about $350 each after rebate. Don't know what your budget is, but there are several flat panels out there and the prices are coming down. I also don't know what your quality expectations are, but I think most flat panels look awesome.

Hope this helps,
Steve

Maybe I'm missing the boat, but what about CRT displays? I have a high-quality Sony 21" CRT, and I love it.

If you are only concerned about quality, my opinion is that the CRTs are still superior to LCDs in general (especially w.r.t. color and tone) ... they're just huge. On the plus side, they're cheap these days (to think, I got mine for free because someone upgraded to an LCD.).

That's not to detract from the excellent Apple Cinema Displays; they are just expensive. (You should see the 30" in person -- it's really something! :o)

I agree. Unless you are short on room or really want to impress your friends when they come into the house with the monster flat display, you will literally save thousands on buying two CRT displays. Of course, those Apple screens look nice, but I would have to sell my car and my first child to afford something like that.

Something flat display manufacturers are doing right is the 16:9 aspect ratio. you can have two pages of text/ or webpages in the same desktop, and man how sweet does the Color Correction arrange get in FCP4 16:9...
