apocalypto

I'm at my secretary's computer, and couldn't view the trailer.

But when he was in Chicago for a pre-viewing of Passion, he said he wanted to work on a film involving the Jewish freedom fighters during Roman or Greek rule. Can't remember if that was the Maccabees, a century or two before Christ, or the guys who went up to the apocalyptic fortress at Masada and held out against Rome until they all committed suicide ca. AD 70.

I seem to think the latter. It sounds too good for Mel (I like to call him Mel) to resist!

In any case, apocalypto is a Greek verb, cognate with "apocalypse". I.e, end times.

I think he'll do a good job. Can't wait--loved the Passion.

Check out Masada. Peter Jackson couldn't have done better.

from IMDB:
Apocalypto

An action/adventure film set 600 years ago, prior to the 16th-century Spanish conquest of Mexico and Central America, where a man goes on a perilous journey to save his idyllic world.

There are some photos floating around the web of Gibson. He is sporting a LOOOOONG beard lately. That's all I remember from reading articles on Apocalypto... heh.

Some of the stuff in the trailer looked like it was shot just for the teaser. Probably not in the final movie. The last shot looked good, but the movie is still in production so I'm sure the VFX is still rough. Hope this one has the same power and emotion as Braveheart.

I heard all the actors speak in mayan...unless i'm making that lauguage up and it doesnt exist. Whatever laungage it is...they speak that...and not english...just like in the passion of the christ. .... with subtitles

Mel is actually in the trailer and he's wearing a flannel shirt and a rolex.

Seriously. Watch it and at about 3/4 of the way (after the pregnant woman, the men running with torches, and the guy gets caught by a net) there's some men in white powder and he's standing with his arm on one of them. You have to go frame by frame because it's quick. Do it. Trust me. Mel does what he wants to do and you must respect him for that.
