hey there all, I was wondering if there was any way that you could adjust aperture in post (so you can achieve the blurring effect), I know you can do it with stills, but what about video, thanks guy!

Aperture is the width of the iris in the camera, and it determines the amount of light allowed to pass through into the camera's pickup element. That will change the image's exposure. Do you mean how do you adjust exposure in post (make it lighter/darker), or blur the image in post (make it fuzzy)?

Sounds like he wants to achieve a shallow DoF effect in post. So the question is probably of how to selectively make areas look out of focus.

there are many different aspects and types of blur and unless he gets more specific about what kind of blur he wants he gonna be S.O.L.

hey sorry guys..I have been spending all my time on the HBS forum...I building a new steadicam!!! and today I was sitting at my comp and.. "doh! I have a post on DVX that needs checking." Anyway some of you got it right, I do mean DOF, it was late a night and was thinkin' about alot of things...but that is what I mean.

So you wanna adjust DOF in post? Yeesh, rotoscoping is the only way I know to do that. Defocus the background and use a 2D program to chase the matte with the action. It's possible but not easy... Is that what you mean?

Check out videocopilot.net ... Andrew kramer has a tutorial up about creating DOF with After Effects in post.. just some rotoscoping. I'm not sure if he has the entire tutorial posted, as i think its one of his DVD ones...
