aPAD, attenuation Pad for the Rode Videomic and videomic pro

How to make a PAD attenuator in order to damp one channel of the Rode Videomic or Videomic pro. Since these microphones are mono the signal is doubled to the left and right channel. We can damp one of them and then we have a wider dynamic range, so in case some loud noises clip saturating the recorder we can use the attenuated track.

Well done. Where did you find the female cable 3.5mm jack with the extended case (to make room for the resistors)? All the ones I have access to done have enough space for the divider network.

It is an ordinary female, the case is a piece of 10mm nylon bar that I bored with an 8.5mm drill. I made it with a lathe, but it is possible to do with a drill press and vice using several drills from thin to thick. Next one I will try with polypropilene insted of nylon(polyamide) since it is black and easier to machine.

Other possibility is to cut the last 2 inches of a ballPoint pen or marker so you have a small and a big hole.

From the guys and gals at RODE here, congratulations well done.

And from me, great demo video, very effective if you're using headphones .. !!!
This is not for everybody to attempt, you need soldering skills but you're not actually modifying
the Rode mics .. which would void their warranties.

The rain in Spain might fall on the plain mate ... but it's not falling on you :)

Cheers.
