AOV of the Sony Cine Alta lenses

Hi there,

does anybody have an AOV of the Sonys lenses? I just can't find anywhere the specification, not even in the official broucher... Wonder what its AOV specifically of the 20mm. If it's at least 63° on a s35.

Thanks!

Angle of view is determined by two factors, the focal length of the length, and the size of the capture medium. So unless there are inaccuracies in the measurement of a lenses focal length, a 20mm will offer the same AOV on any capture mediums of equivalent size, regardless of branding - so a 20mm is always a 20mm.

Thanks, but I know that AOV is determined by the medium not only the lens. But as you mentioned I'm interested in these inaccuracies... because an Schneider XENON 25mm has AOV of 52° and a a Cook 25mm S5 has AOV of 61.9° on a S35.

There are other variables that can come into play besides just the sensor size when a manufacturer is giving specs for FOV/AOV. You also have aspect ratio and are they giving it for the horizontal, diagonal or vertical. Sometimes you have to read the fine print to make sure you're comparing apples-to-apples. There can also be variations among what one would think is a fixed/standard set of dimensions. Canon s35 sensors on the Cx00's are larger than Sony s35 sensors on the F5/55's. Canon "full frame" sensors are also larger than Nikon's.

Check the specs again - the Cooke is a diagonal angle of view, the Schneider is horizontal. That'd be a huge difference.
