Anyone with Hackintosh advice?

Last summer I made the mistake of buying a brand new hot 17" MacBook Pro. It is still top of the line and should love it, but it's not fast enough for my needs unfortunately. I've also sunk and additional $1k trying to make it faster. 8GB RAM, fastest eSATA expresscard and RAID 0, the works. Alas, I should have bought a Mac Pro.

Selling it would be a huge loss. I've considered buying an older MP to use as a render farm but from what I understand although this would work with Qmaster in Final Cut Studio, After Effects doesn't do network distribution (or does it?). After asking around it seems my best option is to build a 4-core hackintosh (I was told you loss cost effectiveness trying to go 8-core). Someone on MacRumors was even kind enough to PM me a list of parts---although it seems he built his 6 months ago and perhaps there are better parts. I also don't believe I need a top of the line video card since AE is processor intensive.

Does anyone have experience or advice on what to get? Heck, I would even be game to just buy a PC and not bother with turning it into a Hackintosh. Just using it with Windows programs. I am a total Mac guy though so I have no experience with what is available. Are there super cheap "fast" PCs that would be an even better choice than going the Hackintosh route?

thanks!

Well if you're going hackintosh, you may as well get dual Xeon's, the same parts used in the Mac Pros,
