Anyone using these either of these Graphic Cards with Pro 11

Vegas Pro 11 is too much for my present unit. Graphic card can't cut it. Looking at a couple of new HP systems.

One has AMD ATI Radeon "6770", the other "6850" graphic cards. They both have Open CL and Crossfire so one
would think they could handle GPU Acceleration. Anyone using either of these cards to full effect with Pro 11.
Thanks.

I have a 6850, but Vegas isn't detecting it for some reason. It should as it meets all the requirements. It's probably because I used to have a Nvidia card, so it's more than likely picking up those old drivers... will have to format some time .

The 6850 is a better card than the 6770.

You don't need to format... Just make sure you have the latest AMD Catalyst (that would be 11.12).

To the OP, go for the HD 6850. AMD just released HD 7970 and the entire range of HD 7000 will release early 2012. They bring a new compute oriented architecture which brings significant improvements over the HD 6000 series. So, look out to upgrade to one of those sometime next year.

Yeah, I see I still have the 11.11 drivers.

Although it should have worked, since Sony said anything over 11.7 has support. Anyway, I'll give it an update soon enough and post back.

Kylevant, is your card "Retail" or "OEM" because both ATI and Nvidia OEM card versions are scaled back some and that could make the difference?

I am having a similar issue on my Dell XPS 8100. Seriously considering selling the unit and getting a whole new rig. What kills me is that the power supply and standard configuration of the motherboard in the 8100 means that I can't upgrade the video card without upgrading a series of other parts in the otherwise great computer. Dell cheapened out bigtime on their power supplies in order to 'go green' and save the planet. I thought I was buying a computer dangit!

Yeah, that's why I always build my own machines. You know what you're going to upgrade and you can build in provision for that.

Got this from another Vegas forum which suggests not installing the driver that comes with your card, but only the Catalyst updated driver.
Worth a try I guess.

Suddenly, after updating to the very most recent AMD drivers, my Vegas Pro 11 is picking up the GPU. So that's great, although the speed increase is barely noticeable. I get about a 5% improvement over the CPU for AVC rendering, and Cineform playback on the timeline is about a 15 - 20% improvement. AVC/H.264 playback is actually worse with the GPU enabled. I suspected this would be the case, which is way I never put too much fuss into fixing it and I've just being using 10 anyway. 11 seems to be a lot more stable now with the latest updates, so I guess I'll edit my next short on that.

Just thought I'd post that here.
