Anyone using a Zoom R24? Reviews? Less expensive alternative to Tascam 680?

I know Zooms aren't the best but this thing runs on batteries. Could be a cheaper alternative to the Tascam 680.

Anyone using one for film production? Your opinions please.

It seems capable enough, and if I was working from a table it would probably be fine although, typically, zoom preamps are not very quiet and little short on gain for narrative dialog recording so may require a mixer on the front end, especially when using low output shotguns like the Rode NTG1 and 2. It is not something I want to try and operate from a bag.

Using the R24 instead of a bag-oriented recorder like the Tascam 680 would be like limiting yourself to using a camera that cannot be taken off a tripod.
