Anyone used a glidecam?

Just got a glidecam hd 1000 and am trying to balance it with the gh1 and kit lens (14-140). My drop time is about 2 seconds and it's giving good, but not great footage.

Anyone had any experience with Glidecams, and if so, any tips?

I heard that the closer to the weight limit the better they work, so was wondering if maybe a heavier camera would yield better results?

Any advice would be grealy appreciated.

THANKS

I have used many of the glidecam products... as well as steadicam and other higher end equipment.

It's not easy.

Understanding how to correctly balance the rig is very complicated and you'll only get better with time and experience. Be very careful to follow their instructions very seriously, regarding the drop test time and etc.

Once you get it balanced right, it then takes experience to get it right operating.

This isn't a plug and play operation. You must really take the time and patience to understand and master it.

Ryan's right. Once you understand how it works, then you can actually get an idea of how you can use it to shoot more stable footage.

EDIT: As bad as this guy is as a host, the video is a good way to get an understand of the steadicam. Its in 2 parts: here's part 1.

^ listen to them. I have the X10 system and it does take time to get it balanced, but that's only a third of the battle.
I practice now for 20 minutes about every other day...it is truely an art. I have a new respect for a steadicam operator!
I'm just using an HMC150 (added a few extra platform plates for more weight) and I can now shoot for about 45 minutes
before my back is ready to break. My goal is 1 hour without breaks.

I just got my AF100, so that's the next one to try on it....

Does anyone know what would be better for a Canon 7D? A HD 1000 or HD 2000?

I use a 7D for filming and have been saving up for a 2000, but I'm wondering if a 1000 is good enough seeing as the 7D isn't too heavy.
