Anyone used a Chauvet CH-175?

I'm a bit of a niche user. I am a musician, and I mostly shoot live bands, and band related stuff. When I say live bands, I mean obnoxious punk bands in sleazy dive bars. Plus, I'm on a budget. This means that anything that can get dual use band/video, is a plus. For audio (microphones, audio recording) this is easy. A good mic is a good mic, and it will last forever..

I was wondering if anyone has used one of these for video: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Chauvet-CH175-Color-Bank-Pro?sku=803080

It's basically 12 white 50 W bulbs in a strip. There's gel holders on each bulb, and it has chase programs as well as full on.

For live band performance, I'd fill the gel holders and maybe use a chase, but probably do full on.

I was wondering if I could use this as a main video light, with no gels and full on. I would be using it for "behind the music" type interviews, and of course it would be the key light.

At $99 for 12 50W bulbs, and dual use, it seems like a good deal. From a live music performance standpoint, it looks great. A lot of the places I shoot bands at have really bad lighting, and adding this can help a lot.

Is there anything I need to look out for as far as using it for a video light?

Thanks,

I did a little more research and the bulbs are:

JCDR 110V :
Tungsten Halogen
Color Temp. K 2800
Dichroic Opne Faced Halogen Lamp

I have no idea what that all means.

I know the picture looks like the bulbs are colored, but I'm pretty sure they are white bulbs and there are gels inserted in each slot in the pic.

Well at colour temp 2800 its gonna be more warm than tungsten, which could be a problem. It depends on how much your mixing different light sources, and how uniform you wnat your colour temperature. my 2c

That would make an interesting key light. perhaps if you put some thick diffusion on, it would make for a good strip light. Essentially a 4' single bulb kino.
