Anyone use the Kessler Pocket Dolly?

Thinking of grabbing one for a shoot. We'll be shooting on FS100 and F3 with very lightweight lenses. Estimating our max camera load to be 8-9lbs, which is well below the 15lb limit Kessler claims.

Its traveling gig, small crew, so would love to make it work. Curious if anyone can attest to the stability of the slider as you move up in camera rig weight?

i use an EX1 with the biggest battery bringing up to about 6.25lbs. all is very stable although a few pounds short of your 8-9lbs requirement. the Kessler stuff is extremely well built and very sturdy. i own a bunch of their stuff and its all built like a tank. 9lbs wouldnt concern me knowing their gear.

i highly recommend their Hercules head. i use that on Miller Solo VJ legs and its amazing what can be done.

With that much weight, you will want to support both ends. A tripod on one end and a cheapo light stand on the other will be enough, but a single point mount with that much weight would be a bad idea.

Love mine. It's a solid piece of gear but unless you have a Hercules head, you need to use two stands to support it (or put it on a table) The Hercules head is great, but it's really heavy so traveling with it might not be the best idea.

ive taken for granted that its very steady but i do use the Hercules head at all time unless its sitting on something like the ground. so, yes like others have said without the Hercules head it would be a stretch to use in on a normal tripod head and have too much weight pulling when the camera is to the outer edges.

one other benefit to the Hercules head is that you can use the PD as a small jib. for close proximity shooting its actually pretty effective in a pinch.

p.s. and yes, the Hercules head is heavy if thats a consideration. its the same head that is used with all of their cranes.

The Hercules head will handle a single point mounting just fine under most any circumstances. The OP mentioned getting up into the 9lb range which might make the PD flex a bit at the extreme with any single point mount. Don't forget to add the weight of a fluid head on the PD carriage. I have been using a Manfrotto 701 just because it is about the lightest head available which still gives a bit of dampening if you want pan whilst the carriage is moving.
