Anyone try 60i to 24p in vegas 6.0 yet.

Just get WinAvi Video Capture 2.0, make settings to 24p capture and that's all!!! No more headaches and additional soft.
WinAvi Video Capture is very very cool. It can capture video in almost any video format. Unfortunately, no DV AVI format, but believe me,this is not problem for the quality! I use WinAvi products for a long time ago,and I have to say that they are grate! You can capture to AVI with any codec you have installed. Therefore just for the first time I choosed a video capture to SVCD format so that to see the result at all. The general option I use is that it is possible to set the frame rate!!! I checked "24 frames". Then I captured a footage from my miniDV cam /JVC GR DVL520A - PAL 25p/ to svcd - 24p format instead of 25p. The result is really amaizing: after some filter processing in Vegas I rendered out to PAL SVCD at PREVIEW quality project - just for faster render,so that to see the motion of the footage. YES, the result is so fine, and if I try with BEST quality project, the result will be so much better. The footage really looks like 24p film natural - no strobes,no anything bad. Just try it!
If somebody knows a better video capture software which can change the frame rate of capturing, just tell me about it!
P.S.: I mean no frame rate converter but frame rate capturer,ok? The difference is big!!!

Wow; I just downloaded the demo.

I can say with all honesty that Vegas does a much better job at converting. MUCH better. To say nothing of normal capture conveniences like scene detection, etc., that this WinAvi does not have. A few too many misspellings in the pop-up menus as well.

Yes,the scene detection in Vegas is indispensable, but if you know a way in Vegas to get a video capture from 25p cam directly to 24p,just tell me how is it possible? My DVcam is 25p and there is not a way to capture to 24p. Yes or not?!?!?

No, but you don't need to. 25p and 24p are extremely close together, a difference of only 4%. Most people can't tell the difference.

Theoreticaly yes,but the look is really very different - exactly like in a film. Just try and you will see it.

No they dont look really different. Every European PAL DVD is 25P.

You can however se the difference if you compare to a NTSC 24P DVD to a PAL 25P DVD. But thats becuase of the pulldown and the format itself.

If you have a PAL tv set then 25P will look most like a 24P film you can see on cinema.

Yeah, the motion is different!!! Can't you see it?!? Just see through your eyes, not through the theory and the books. The raw 25p motion of any DV cam is so smooth and crystal, like in the news and in some live tv shows - no post proccessing, no anything else. But after capturing directly to 24p the motion becomes very very very different, like in a real film production.

A good reason why 25P footage looks cleaner and smoother than 24P in NTSC is *because* it's being played as 50i on your PAL television set. It's effectively playing back at what looks like true 25P, whereas the 24P material being played on our NTSC sets has added a 3:2 pulldown to convert it to 60i - which has a slight judder. Nothing ridiculously noticeable, but a side-by-side comparison will show that anything without a pulldown is better looking.

I would bet that on a computer monitor, where it's a true progressive playback, you wouldn't be able to tell the difference between a DVX that shot in 25P, and a DVX that shot in 24P, if all creative aspects about the image were equal. So don't worry, unless you need to play your footage on an NTSC device, keeping it 25P will be fine.
