Anyone tried those pin mic lavs?

They look like a button. You take the top capsule off and you poke the back part of the lav through your clothing to connect back to the top part so you don't have to worry about hiding the wire.

I know Coffey Sound is selling the pin lavs but I still have not heard them. How do they compare in sound quality to the Sanken and Countrymen?

Re: Anyone tried those pin mic lavs?

I looked at these from afar, but still think the Countryman B-6 is the best thing going. Why limit yourself to looking like a button when you can stick the mic behind the button and get great sound (as I have done with the B-6). But, I would be curious to hear what Dave is hearing about them.

These mics rock.

The can look like anything you want them to look like. There is an add on sleeve that goes over the mic capsule itself. You can glue whatever you want onto the add on sleeve. A button, a brooch, an american flag pin....whatever you can think of. They sound like a cross between a tram and a sanken cos-11. The advantages are:

-You can hide them in plain sight
-It takes you less time to wire someone up
-No clothing noise because the mic is outside the clothes
-No muffled dialogue

Now, I know most people have their favorite mics, so I tell people just pick up one or two for those special situations that you may need it. We've all been in a situation where we've wished we had something like this, and now we do. If anyone wants to come down and demo one, just let me know. I have one sitting on my desk right now.

Also, check out www.pinmic.com and http://www.ricsonix.com/site/index.htm#

They are manufactured in Australia by ricsonix. Grace Distribution is the worldwide distributor.
