Anyone tried those fake "As ARRI" Lights on Ebay?

I have 150W and 300W Fresnels and they works. You will have to check wiring because that's the one thing that can be lesser but other than that they are okay.

I just received this kit. It is probably the same kit with the softboxes added. http://www.ebay.com/itm/14059477654...X:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649#ht_2966wt_1089

The light housings are very well made. All nice aluminum extrusions or castings. The internals are also well made. Ceramic insulators, insulated wiring, good focus mechanism. The cord is nice and long with a big rocker switch on it and is a nice high quality being made, with either rubber or silicone for the outside jacket instead of cheap PVC. The housing mounting bracket is also solid and heavy gauge. It adjusts well and stays where it is put, even with the softboxes hanging out there.

The barn doors are good. The way they mounted the flag to the adjustment rod is the only thing I would comment on as looking a bit cheap. There is nothing wrong with what they did, but it just looks a bit cheap. It works well and is solid. So no complaint really.

The softboxes are also well made. Nice casting for the ring. The fabric is heavy and well put together. I feel there is no worries it will fall apart any time soon.

The stands are good. They are 4 stage and will take the light up about 7-8 feet. With the softboxes hanging out there, I would have preferred that the legs stand out a bit further. It's ok, but I'd prefer to have a little wider stance. But for the light-only, they are fine.

The bag is also good. This is a heavy kit. You won't be carrying this one very far. The wheels are a necessity. I haven't taken a look at the wheels to see what they are made of or how solid they are.

They even put the proper 120V bulbs in the kit for the U.S. instead of just putting in the 240V bulbs for the international market.

I've only just put one light together and lit it up, so my opinion may change over time. But right now, my opinion is this is a very well made light. Nothing was done cheaply. Good materials and fabrication.

If you want more pictures than are offered on ebay of some part, I can post some.

I took a closer look at the pictures of the kit your are looking at. These are not the same lights as the ones I have. It looks like the one your are looking at took a few shortcuts as compared to the one I have. The differences are minor, but they are different.

One example is the light bracket. On yours, it is a stamped piece of metal, but on mine, it is solid aluminum.

People are actually buying these cheap Chinese bootlegs? For $750 or $900... I don't know. Seems like they're probably only worth $250 at best.
