Anyone switch from Vegas?

I switched to Adobe from Vegas a while ago, but with version 12 I'm actually switching back...

Adobe's a great package, but I just find editing a lot more intuitive and quicker in Vegas.

LOL... Thanks Shooter...That's the plan! I just can't get Vegas to render anything for me that I think is even remotely acceptable.

Why is rendering impossible? The new version of Vegas actually has support for the HVX's shooting modes. If you're not on Version 12, then I understand. It was version 12 that got me to go back to Vegas.

Support isn't perfect; they don't have pulldown removal for 1080/24p yet, which is just silly, but it works fine for 720p and 1080/60i and all versions of AVC-Intra.

Nowadays I mainly shoot AVCHD, with some mix of other flavors: NanoFlash MXF, HPX250 AVC-I, and various mp4 files from things like the GoPro 3.

I'm shooting 24p/1080 and anything I'm rendering is jerky. I REALLY like the stability of 12, but I just can't seem to get a functional final product.... Maybe it's me....and highly likely...I'm no pro for sure.....

So you're on Vegas 12?

The only way to work with 1080/24 DVCPRO-HD, as far as I know, is on a 60i timeline. They don't have real 24p support for HVX footage yet.

On the other hand, Adobe CS5 does perfectly handle HVX 1080/24p footage. The transition is not simple, but if that's the way you want to go, it will work for you.

I have 11 and 12... 12 being far superior, .. Except the pull down issue. I tried he 60i timeline, but just doesn't look right still....so, I would set the timeline up for 60i and render 60i?

I switched from Vegas about a year ago. I liked Vegas a lot. I left on Version 9 though. I may come back someday but the tools in Adobe are pretty powerful and they really do keep up on supporting formats. If you do switch do yourself a favor and take a couple of months of lynda.com. They have excellent tutorials that are in depth and up to date. After Effects rocks. I love working dialog and production sound in Audition and Premiere makes it really easy to go back and forth.

I've got both but mostly use Premiere. Was a huge Vegas fan but it just started getting so buggy and unstable, the irony being I switched TOO Vegas because Premiere was so buggy (this is back in the Precambrian era of Premiere 5.1).

May have to give Vegas 12 a look but I love being first in line for all the sweet plug ins and support that I get using the Adobe products. Premiere is very good now and the interoperability between programs is huge. Always felt a bit like a red headed step child with Vegas. :(

Ultimately this is what it is about. What you feel comfortable doing. Heard it a millions times. Because it's true. The beauty of choice and finding what's best for you.

I made the switch once CS6 came out. My features are getting more and more effects orientated, so it seemed a smart move. I've designed a window layout for Premiere that emulates Vegas (I spent nine years with the Vegas line) and I also changed the "Add Edit" shortcut from "CTRL K" to "S". Once I did those two things, I found the switch to be completely painless and I haven't regretted my choice. Dynamic Linking is a HUGE deal for me. I've learned I can hold off on doing any rendering until I'm ready to strike a digital master. That's pretty cool to me.

Were you able to get around the whole enabled and disabled tracks to perform the add edit or did you just get used to turning them on and off as needed?

Premiere's reputedly excellent integration with other Adobe tools would be a major consideration - if you use other Adobe tools, or especially if you're considering buying the full Adobe suite.

I'm certainly jealous when I see the zillions of Premiere books and plug-ins, compared with Vegas's paltry selection. But as with other posters above, I've seen numerous comments from users who find Vegas a more pleasant all-in-one editing tool for most things.

Not that that's much help to you if you're having specific problems with file quality - difficult to know whether Vegas or your specific project/output settings are the problem.

When I realized that I don't do much multi-track, it really isn't a big deal to me to turn the tracks on or off. Actually, I like the level of control that brings. I can chop up audio and video, but leave a music track alone. Pretty cool actually.
