Anyone suffering from brain farts lately?

I dunno if it's my job shooting and editing for 16 hours a day, but I'm having alot of trouble remembering lines I want to type in my scripts whenever I sit down on the computer to write.

When I'm driving home or prancing around my room, I recite the dialogue to myself and it sounds great and flows well. But when I open Final Draft and start typing it in, I suffer a brain fart and literally forget what I want to write. Even when I get up from my chair to recite my dialogue, I instantly forget it when my hands touch the keyboard. :Drogar-KnockedOut(D

I'm really trying to dedicate more of my weekends to writing, but I'm more interested in sleeping in. I used to have a good groove when I was passionate about it last year, but since my job's current cinematographer/cameraman left, I've had to take over, resulting in more hours of work (although the money is great).

Any advice for my rotting brain?

Portable voice recorder. I record every decent idea or idea that could turn decent onto mine, because I know I have memory issues and won't get it otherwise. If I don't have that within reach I can usually find something to write on. When there's free time I sit down and type up all the keepers, deleting the audio files as I go. Eventually my stray thoughts almost make their own script.

The latest iPhone has a built-in recorder, and a cheap app is available for earlier models. My Sony voice recorder sits unused now. I'd imagine that may other cell phones have simple recorders in them as well...perhaps yours?

Either way, Cassisus is right - they're great for any flashes of inspiration that you want to make sure you remember later...dialog, script/story ideas, melodies, lyrics...

OTOH, I'm sure your brutal schedule *is* the reason for your problems with thought flatulence...

A voice recorder would be great if I didn't hate hearing the sound of my own voice..

But if I'm gonna be a director, I better get used to hearing it.

I blew my nervous system from working too much :)
I wish I had money to go to a detox retreat in Hawaii they're so expensive. Like 3 to 10 grand. Maybe something in Florida would be cheaper.

I think for your "rotting brain" you should lie and relax under the sun more. I've been living in a shoebox in Manhattan and didn't realize the health benefits of the sun, I'm LA bound ! WIsh I was there now.
