Since you can create a mirrored raid set (i.e., Raid 1) in Snow Leopard using Disk Utility, I am not sure what you are saying in your post. Are you having trouble using a raid set in FCP? Does your WD HD have 2 hard drives, as would be needed for a Raid 1 setup? Please provide additional information.
Hi Kevin, I've never done that before, so with using Disk Utility I can do this with any two standard drives? Would this reduce performance because the cpu is handling the mirroring instead of a dedicated controller within a raid?
Currently the Western Digital 2 Terrabyte Mybook Studio 2 that I bought doesn't work with Snow Leopard. Well it does when I plug it in - it shows up as a 2 terabyte drive Raid 0. When I try to use the provided software to reconfig to Raid 1 it's incompatible.
I checked the link and downloaded latest version also looked at firmware patch. Stilll not working with Snow Leopard. I'm returning this to B&H tomorrow. So far the only option for Raid 1 that sems reliable is to spend more and get CalDigit
Some of the dual drive enclosures sold as RAID drives are set up to do only one flavor of RAID. I don't know if you can use Drive Utility to set these up in a different RAID configuration or not. I would check the manufacturers specs to see what they say on each of these points.
Also, Lacie and some other manufacturers sell two drive enclosures on which it is possible to select RAID 1, RAID 0 or just two hard drives to be configured by the user. Some people have had trouble with Lacie drives, but I haven't had any problems with mine (at least not yet, knock on wood).
