If anyone has shot and edited 2.7k Protune files, please share your workflow and how you think it turns out.

I've been getting some aliasing from the downscale to 1080p, but it seems to be a pretty specacular capture format if you want to be able to adjust curves, color and saturation.

Just interested in what fx others have found useful inside vegas or movie studio 12 with these files.

Cheers,
Pete

Nice sales pitch :)

With a high quality micro SD card and any firmware since I got my cam at Christmas time, I haven't had a single freeze.

I am also curious as to wether protune runs smoothly in vegas since the new release?
I played with some Hero 2 protune files & vegas 12 couldn't play them back smoothly.
Has this been fixed in the update?
Looking at both 1920x1080 or 2.7k files.
Cheers Pete.

I've found that it handles the files fine, but takes some horse power to play back. My machines won't play back smoothly unless I go to Preview "Quarter". Renders take about the same time as Canon dslr *.mov 45mbps clips for me so it appears that the rescale to HD doesn't take much work.

If you want to be really technical about it, you could transcode with the GoPro Cineform Studio first to 4.2.2 avi then import into vegas. I tried it a bunch but didn't find it to be of any real benifit and it takes a ton more time.

For me the key is white balance => slight s-curve to a curves fx => a little saturation boost. This produces very nice images that are nearly indistinguishable from those transcoded with Cineform which Protune was designed for.

Here's a couple of my test with it.

Thankyou, I am going to be playing around with some underwater footage on the weekend so white balance will be a key issue here.
