Anyone notice the voice fluctuations during "Cosmos" on Fox?

I have watched both episodes of "Cosmos" on Fox through my 5.1 home theater audio system, and noticed very apparent changes in the sound of the host's voice. My home receiver display did indicate that I was getting the 5.1 mix, with LFE.

I know that production schedules would demand that Neil record and re-record voice segments for this show, as any production on this scale would certainly have script changes and last-minute updates to insert into the final program. And I am sure these vo and ADR sessions have occurred at different studios, on different mics, etc., but wow… the changes from scene to scene, and even within scenes are very drastic. Most of the voice sounds great, but some of the lines are really muffled-sounding, or super-thin.

I would have thought the audio team for a show at this level would be able to do a better job of making all of the voice sound, if not great, at least consistent from line to line.

Anyone else hearing this? Or am I just getting old?

I hear it all the time. I'm thinking it has to do more with them going from location to VO to their green-screen studio than anything else. But yes, one would expect it to be a little more evened out.

I also think Tyson just kind of speaks that way - mumbling a bit. Sometimes it's almost as if he is out of breath.
