Anyone know what this is?

I was given this a while back and I haven't been able to find any trace of what this is for / how much its worth. I know its some sort of teleconverter, probably for an 8mm film camera, but there is not one trace of this online that I could find. This is surprising since it is a canon lens and it seems like they would have a readily available record of all their products.

Any thoughts on where I can get more information on this? Maybe a place that would buy it? Thanks!

Thanks for the interest Ryan!

Engraved around the exterior the lens is:
CANON EXTENDER 1.5x NO. 100293 CANON LENS MADE IN JAPAN

Again, I haven't been able to find anything online that talks about this lens. I just took it to Adorama in NYC and they said they weren't sure what it was for. They sort of shooed me away since it was a busy day in their retail store though, so I doubt they wanted to deal with me.

Thanks again!

Extenders, also commonly referred to as teleconverters are matched converter lenses to increase the focal length of long lenses, with minimal light loss and maintaining quality.

For example, a 200mm lens with Extender 1.4x has an effective focal length of 280mm: with the Extender 2x, this increases to 400mm.

Extenders are only compatible with selected EF lenses, including the EF 70-200mm f/2.8L USM, EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM, EF 70-200mm f/4L, EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L USM, EF 400mm f/4 DO IS USM and fixed focal length L-series lenses of 135mm or higher.

Thanks Nuno!

I know what teleconverters are but I am trying to find out what this SPECIFIC teleconverter is/was used for. Such as what lens mount it is, camera model it works with, lenses that work with it, etc.

I haven't been able to find anything on this specific model. Its not in any canon database or photo library so I came to the forums to see if anyone has seen this teleconverter before.

Looks to me like a telescope adapter for a canon film camera with both ends threaded like that.

Yep, teleconverter. Extends the focal length of any lens it fits half again its original length. For example, the focal length of a 50mm would become a 75mm. However, this usually comes at a significant loss of light sensitivity.

1.5x is 1 stop light loss.
2x is 2 stops of light loss.

This is because it is gathering only a fraction of the light it would normally be receiving, yet spreading it across the same image plane.
