Anyone know how they did this?

I apologize if this is in the wrong section. Just wondering if anyone had any ideas how they did the effects in this video?

Did they greenscreen the top layer (the band, the people) and just play with the opacity when it fades in and out?

Looks like a mix of techniques. Green screen, luma key, changing opacity, using transfer different transfer modes, garbage mattes, rotoscoping, masking, ect. You can easily do this in After Effects of FCP.
