i got some free software for subscribing to a vid mag...
is ULEAD worth checking out? or will i be wasting my time?

the CD bundle includes:

Video Studio 8
COOL 3D Production Studio
Media Studio Pro 7
DVD Movie Factory 3
DVD Workshop 2

I started out with mediastudio and it is pretty alright I think. Expect to want more and better (there is...) quite soon, but since you got it for free I'd say go for it! The DVD stuff should be alright as well. If the movie you have inside your head is good, try and make it with this stuff...you can come a long way. You will never waste your time getting to know this, maybe you'll just switch to something else after a while but that will only be a change of tools. Good luck!
 
aaaah yes, searching for stuff makes one come across the old files. Well, maybe this answer has come just in time for you, right? Cheers to myself (...)
 
DVD Workshop 2 has been my primary DVD authoring tool for the last couple of years, it's mpg encoder is pretty good too (although I mostly use tmgEnc) -- and

Cool 3d is great for quickly creating motion titles and graphics (especially if you don't have the time to master AEffects). Both have gotten some good reviews in the past in the pro-sumer trades.
